The industry of flame retardants

The production and application of flame retardants have entered a stage of steady development after the vigorous development of the early 80s twentieth Century. With the development and application of the synthetic material industry in China, flame retardants have wide market prospects in chemical building materials, electronic and electrical appliances, transportation, aerospace, daily furniture [1], interior decoration, clothing, food and shelter, etc. In addition, the fields of coal field, oil field and forest fire extinguishing have also promoted the rapid development of fire retardant and fire extinguishing agent in China. The flame retardants in China have been developed into second major polymer additives, which are second only to plasticizers.

In recent years, the production and consumption of flame retardants in China have continued to develop, and the average annual consumption growth rate of 2002~2004 years is over 20%. Since 2002, the consumption of domestic flame retardants has risen sharply, and the increase of the market share is mainly from two aspects: electronic electronics and automobile market.

At present, the development of low smoke and non-toxic inorganic flame retardants is imminent in China. Magnesium hydroxide as halogen free flame retardant has broad application prospects, but the current domestic production of magnesium hydroxide flame retardant compared with foreign advanced products, has low flame retardant efficiency, need high filling amount, easy agglomeration, influence the mechanical properties of the matrix material and other issues, the need for industry to increase technology research efforts to reduce the production cost and product price.

The consumption of global flame retardants in 2005 is about 1 million 300 thousand tons, and it is expected to maintain an average annual growth rate of 3.5% by 2010. In 2005, global flame retardant sales were about 3 billion 500 million US dollars, and it is expected to increase to 4 billion 600 million US dollars in 2010, with an annual growth rate of 5.6%.

In 2007, 84% of the fire retardant products in China were chlorinated, and the low smoke and non-toxic inorganic flame retardant products accounted for only about 8% of the total amount. The fire-retardant materials used in building have a great potential market in China. At present, there is a big gap between the varieties of flame retardants in China and the developed countries. With the strengthening of the national demand for flame retardant technology, the development and development of low smoke and non-toxic flame retardants in China will have a better broad prospect.
